Smoke Detection / Manual Fire Alarm System

Fire Fighting Solutions

Understanding Ionization, Smoke & Heat Detectors

Ionization smoke detectors work using ions generated inside a detection chamber. These detectors require prior government approval due to the involvement of Americium, a radioactive material that produces alpha particles essential for their operation. The ions created by the reaction of oxygen, nitrogen, and alpha particles allow electric current to flow between electrodes. When smoke enters the chamber, this current is disrupted, triggering the alarm. Because the process involves regulated and potentially hazardous material, strict compliance and permissions are mandatory before using ionization detectors.

Smoke Detectors – Design & Function The smoke detectors we offer are known for their accurate design, long life, and reliable performance. They are installed to sense early signs of fire and provide timely warnings. Each unit is engineered with precision to meet international standards and specific client requirements.

Heat Detectors – Types & Uses Heat detectors come in various forms, each designed for specific fire conditions. Mechanical heat detectors have no electrical components and are typically round with half-white aluminium covers and a brass centre disk. Wireless or automatic heat detectors use electronic sensors to detect heat, smoke or flame.

Different types include :

Fixed Temperature Detectors: Trigger when a set temperature is reached.

Fusible Link Detectors: Use a heat-sensitive link that melts at a specific temperature.

Pneumatic Heat Sensors: Detect heat along tubing; used near engines, turbines, and pressure vessels.

Rate-of-Rise Detectors: Respond to sudden increases in temperature; ideal for storerooms, warehouses, and enclosed spaces.

Each type has its own strengths.
For example, a fixed threshold detector is better above a closed oven to avoid false alarms, while a rate-of-rise detector is ideal for areas with fast-spreading flames.
